The vast majority of Chinook breeders are extremely careful about placements and are willing to take a dog back or assist in rehoming, if necessary. Therefore, authentic Chinooks in rescue situations are rare. However, exceptions can occur and both the AKC and UKC parent clubs maintain active rescue programs:

Additionally, Chinook-a-likes (mixed breed dogs who resemble purebred Chinooks) can sometimes be found in various shelters. Although these dogs are unlikely to contain any authentic Chinook blood and hopefully aren't being represented as such, a similar temperament can occasionally be found in mixes comprised of the breeds originally used to create the Chinook.
