There's no looking back.  Taz has been one of the most influential sires in the breed, even with a very limited number of breedings.

Well, Taz is sort of my dog!  He was my puppy back from Chaska, a bitch placed out of our  GR CH North Wind Kodiac x CH Winterset Celina Swift breeding, but mom snapped him up as her personal pet while allowing me the privilege of managing his show career.

Taz represents the 2nd generation of purebred Chinooks stemming from the breeding our foundation female, CH Winterset Celina Swift with a pedigree based entirely on 1980's founders.  Taz has a wonderful, out-going and yet laid back disposition with an almost human air about him.  He is an extremely intelligent boy and shows none of the timidity or excessive softness plaguing some modern Chinooks.  Nor does he show excessive energy and out-of-control exuberance that can make some working dogs downright unpleasant to handle on a freight team.  In harness, Taz is a hard, steady puller and shows excellent stamina working in any position, including lead.  He is a gentle, non-aggressive dog and can work next to any team mate, including another intact male.

Taz is a proven sire and strongly reproduces his awesome temperament as well as historic Walden era breed type and conformation.  In 4 litters to 4 different females, several identified as potential or known carriers, Taz has also produced NO seizures, NO anasarca, NO vaccine reactions, NO gastrointestinal difficulties, and NO hip dysplasia with a significant portion of his offspring tested.  Eye health has also been strong in the vast majority of Taz offspring, in addition to a 2005 litter that was inbred on him, achieving a normal CERF evaluation.  With respect to hips, OFA excellence does run in families: Taz, Taz's dam, and 3 OFA EXCELLENT sons and daughters represented 20% of the 25 purebred Chinooks rated excellent by OFA as of July 2006.  Future breedings will continue to focus on these important health issues in addition to conformation and movement.  Taz has also been a strong producer of testicle health, a health issue affecting roughly 1/3 of all purebred males and his line does not seem to be affected by gastrointestinal disorders or vaccine reactions.

What else is there left to say about this wonderful Chinook?  Perhaps that his conformation, reach, and drive are outstanding for a large dog built for heavy hauling and he has had many impressive wins in the show ring.
